Christmas 2008 recap

Now that we're a week into 2009, I've finally found the time to recap the Heider family 2008 Christmas.

Sunday, Dec. 21, the 3 of us drove from Liberty to Streator. Driving conditions were not the best -- it was very windy and cold, and the roads were icy. Yet, we only stopped once to fill the gas tank and our bellies. It was dark when we arrived in Streator, but we could see some tree limbs on the ground from the ice storm that hit two days earlier. The following morning I ventured outside with Grandpa Heider to take photos of the ice storm's remnants.

I had only 2 items on my Christmas list, and I was fortunate to receive both of them: the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS digital camera, and the Epson Perfection V500 Photo scanner. Hopefully both of these items will improve the quality of the photos and videos that I post to this blog!

Friday, Dec. 26, the 3 of us drove from Streator to Elrosa. Again, driving conditions were less than ideal -- it was rainy and very foggy in places. Again, we only stopped once to fill the gas tank and our bellies.

Sunday, Dec. 28, all of the Heinzes except Jim, Shelly, and Mariah gathered at Grandma and Grandpa's house to celebrate Christmas. Nathaniel received many more toys, about as many as from the Heiders.

Monday, Dec. 29, Nathaniel visited the Heinze farm for the first time. The weather was too cold to go to the barn to see the critters -- that will have to wait until the next visit.

Tuesday, Dec. 30, the 3 of us drove the 3rd and final leg from Elrosa to Liberty. Driving conditions were horrible for the Minnesota portion of this leg -- a heavy snowstorm limited our speed to 40 mph through the state. Fortunately, we left the snow behind us as we crossed the state line from Minnesota to Iowa. Once again, we only stopped once to fill the gas tank and our bellies. It was good to return home!
