DC Heinzes visit Liberty

Ann's cousin Marty, wife Linda, and sons Logan & Luke were in town on a recent hot Saturday during their summer vacation, so they paid us a visit. We had last seen each other at Marty's brother Loren's wedding 2 1/2 years ago; I barely recognized the boys, although Logan is the spitting image of his dad.

Before it got too hot outside, we strolled down to the neighborhood park, so that the boys (except Nathaniel) could burn off some energy on the playground. We returned to the house to slake our thirst with Boulevard Pale Ale, and I fired up the grill for a tasty lunch of chicken kabobs.

Shortly after lunch, it was time to depart for Luke's afternoon nap. We said our goodbyes, and expressed the hope that another 2 1/2 years wouldn't pass before our paths crossed again.

Best of Nathaniel - June

June has come and gone, so it's time to post more photos of Nathaniel -- 31 to be exact. Highlights of the month included Nathaniel's first swims (see post below), first Heider family reunion in Illinois, first baths in the big tub, first fat lip (caused by a stumble into his play table), and first bites of chicken. In hindsight, this was a very busy month for the boy! Oh, and he mastered the art of crawling, as well as pulling himself up to a standing position. Maybe we'll finally get him some shoes in July.

Nathaniel's first swim

The first weekend of June promised to be a warm one, so Mom and Dad bought a "turtle" pool for Nathaniel. Mom slathered Nathaniel with sunscreen, and Nathaniel immediately rubbed it into his eyes, which immediately resulted in screams of pain... Apparently the special "baby" sunscreen is not so special.

After Nathaniel's tears flushed most of the sunscreen out of his eyes, we headed for the back yard to plop into the pool. In short, Nathaniel greatly enjoyed the experience! See 7 photos of Nathaniel's dip:

Best of Nathaniel - May

Technically May isn't in the books yet, but since it's been so long between posts, it's time to share the best Nathaniel photos from this month. In the past month, he has begun crawling, mostly backward and sideways. Instead of crawling forward, he kneels and then attempts to stand/pull himself up... He's getting dangerously close to succeeding at this -- see the photos for some examples.

6 month growth charts

Nathaniel visited the doctor today for his 6 month well-baby checkup and vaccinations. His weight (19 pounds even) and length (28.5 inches) were measured, and the doctor remarked that Nathaniel's 95th-percentile length has been fairly consistent each time he's been measured, which is a good thing. She also noted that his current length now has little to no bearing on his eventual height. The only thing that's really significant about his current length is that he has outgrown his infant car seat and several of his outfits.
